Mumbai, November 13, 2025: BHIM Payments App, India’s homegrown payment app developed by NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL) has partnered with Chennai One, Tamil Nadu’s multi-modal transport app to enable commuters in Chennai to buy bus, metro, or suburban rail ticket at Rs1, when they pay with BHIM Payments App, for the first time. The limited-period citywide offer encourages paperless travel, eliminating queues and enabling faster travel across Chennai’s public transport.
Lalitha Nataraj, MD and CEO, NBSL said, “BHIM helped kickstart India’s UPI movement and remains one of the simplest, most trusted way to pay. With the Rs1 ticket on Chennai One, commuters move from paper to phone, from queues to quick entry, and from cash to secure UPI. BHIM is happy to partner with Chennai One to make intracity public travel seamless, safe and convenient.”
Chennai One is seeing strong uptake. In launch week, the app recorded 3 lakh new users, 8 lakh journey searches. In the first month, Chennai One crossed 4.5 lakh registered users and 3.5 lakh tickets booked, as commuters embraced one app and one QR to plan, pay, and travel across modes. The Rs1 onboarding ticket with BHIM Payments App invites every rider to experience that flow without cash or paper.
“Chennai One is transforming how our city moves,” said Thiru I. Jeyakumar, Member Secretary, CUMTA. “This Rs1 offer with BHIM invites everyone to try digital, single-QR tickets across bus, metro, and suburban rail, while building confidence in fast, cashless public transport for Chennai.”
BHIM Payments App is built for simple, secure, real-time payments on a national scale. It is interoperable across banks and UPI apps. The App continues to add features that fit everyday use-cases like transit. These include UPI Lite for fast, PIN-less small-value payments, UPI Lite X for offline low-value payments, UPI Tap & Pay for NFC-based “tap” transactions. Together, these make BHIM a trusted way to go digital for daily commutes.
