Mumbai, 01 October, 2026: Gnani AI, a frontier AI company building foundational models, enterprise agentic AI and sovereign AI infrastructure, today announced the Great Indian AI Internship Challenge. The initiative invites students to build practical applications using Gnani AI’s models and APIs for enterprises, developers and creators, with opportunities to be considered for up to 100 paid internships offering individual stipends of up to Rs1 lakh per month.

The challenge opens on September 30 and closes on November 10, 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews after the challenge concludes, with internships scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027.

The initiative connects two parts of India’s sovereign AI ambition: building foundational technology within the country and developing the talent that can turn it into products the world can use.

Consider a business working through documents in multiple Indian languages, a developer creating a tool that makes AI easier to use, or a creator bringing regional-language content to a wider audience. Each presents a different problem. Each needs builders who understand the user, work with the underlying models and turn an idea into something useful.

The Great Indian AI Internship Challenge invites students to take on such problems using technology built in India.

INDIA’S AI FOUNDATIONS. THE NEXT GENERATION OF BUILDERS

Participants will use Gnani AI’s models and APIs, spanning language and speech capabilities, to develop applications with practical relevance. The scope extends beyond voice to tools and workflows that work with language, information and enterprise tasks.

The challenge encourages students to move from experimentation to application: identify a user need, build a working solution and demonstrate how it could make a difference. It brings student builders closer to India’s own AI foundations, creating a pathway to develop their capabilities through paid internship opportunities.

“Sovereign AI needs both foundational models and people who can turn them into useful applications. India’s campuses have students with the ideas and ambition to do that. Through this challenge, we want to identify promising builders at the grassroots and nurture their capabilities through opportunities to work alongside our teams. The ambition is to build on India’s own AI foundations and create technology that can serve users around the world” said Ananth Nagaraj, Co-founder and CTO, Gnani AI.

FROM STUDENT IDEAS TO REAL-WORLD APPLICATIONS

The initiative aims to identify emerging student talent and support its development through opportunities to work at a frontier AI company. Selected interns will have the opportunity to gain experience with Gnani.ai’s technology and contribute to applications addressing the needs of enterprises, developers and creators.

High-performing interns may subsequently be considered for full-time opportunities, subject to further assessment, role availability and business requirements.

Students can access eligibility requirements, API documentation, submission guidelines, interview shortlisting criteria and programme terms at www.gnani.ai/internship. Submissions close on November 10, 2026.

The programme provides for up to 100 internships, with the final number dependent on selection outcomes. Individual monthly stipends will be determined by Gnani AI based on each candidate’s assessed skills, performance during the selection process and suitability for the internship role, subject to programme terms. Rs1 lakh per month is the maximum potential individual stipend, not a standard or guaranteed amount. The stipend, duration and applicable conditions will be specified in each selected candidate’s written offer. Participation does not guarantee an interview or internship, and an internship does not guarantee subsequent employment.
