Designated court sentences then Passport officer with fine of Rs3.10 lakh in a bribery case

Mumbai, March 30, 2024:The Special Judge, CBI cases, Ernakulam, has  sentenced Sh. P. Ramakrishnan, then Passport Officer, Regional Passport Office, Malappuram, Kerala, to 5 years Rigorous Imprisonment with a total fine of Rs 3.10 lakh in a bribery case.

The instant case was registered by CBI on 19.07.2015 against Sh.P.Ramakrishnan and Sh.Abdul Ameer, T.T., a broker/tout working near Malappuram Passport Office on allegations of demanding a bribe of Rs.50,000/- from the complainant for issuance of a new passport.  Both the above accused were caught red handed on 20.07.2015 by CBI while accepting bribe from complainant.

After investigation, CBI filed chargesheet against both the accused on 27.05.2016.  Sh. Abdul Ameer was tendered pardon by the competent Court as he turned an approver in the case.
