Mumbai, August 15, 2025: Punjab National Bank (PNB), India’s leading public
sector bank, celebrated the 79th Independence Day with fervour and enthusiasm at
its Headquarters in New Delhi and across its 10,000+ branches, including Circle and
Zonal Offices, in the country.
The celebration began with PNB MD & CEO Shri Ashok Chandra hoisting the
National Flag and paying homage to Shri Lala Lajpat Rai, freedom fighter and
founder of PNB, in the presence of EDs, CVO and CGMs and other senior officials of
PNB.
Remembering the sacrifices of the nation’s freedom fighters, PNB MD & CEO Shri
Ashok Chandra said: "On this 79th Independence Day, we take pride in PNB’s 131-
year rich legacy, founded by the great freedom fighter Shri Lala Lajpat Rai. As India
advances towards becoming a developed economy by 2047, PNB is committed to
inclusive and sustainable development through financial inclusion, infrastructure
financing, renewable energy investments, and robust banking services. We are
actively driving nationwide campaigns on PMJDY, social security schemes, re-KYC,
and digital literacy."
Chandra also highlighted the rising challenges of cybersecurity and the urgent need
for collective vigilance. He urged everyone to actively participate in the Financial
Inclusion Saturation Campaign, running till 30 September 2025, as part of PNB’s
vision to be recognised as the country’s leading agrarian bank.
As part of its commitment to social responsibility, PNB, in collaboration with PNB
PRERNA, an association comprising of senior women officials of the bank and the
wives of senior bank officials whose primary goal is to support and promote the
bank's CSR efforts, also extended its support to The Earth Saviours Foundation,
providing medical equipment including and infrastructure support for the upliftment of
over 1200 underserved individuals.
PNB also extended its support to MCP Co-Ed School, Janakpuri, New Delhi, and
Govt. Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Matiala Village, New Delhi, by providing essential
infrastructure for smart classrooms and other essential resources.
