Mumbai, 30 September, 2026: As published in the Reserve Bank of India’s Scheduled Banks’ Statement of Position in India on September 30, 2026, bank credit for All Scheduled Banks stood at Rs22,83,840.72 crore and aggregate deposits stood at Rs28,17,496.83 crore as on September 15, 2026.

Sector-Wide Utility and Structural Dynamics

  • Credit-Deposit (CD) Ratio: Reached 81.06% for all scheduled banks (80.84% for Scheduled Commercial Banks), keeping capital efficiently allocated to economic activity while requiring careful liquidity management. [1]
  • Fortnightly Deposit Unwinding: Demand deposits fell by Rs1,12,185.37 crore and time deposits fell by Rs1,35,563.05 crore, primarily reflecting quarterly corporate tax outflows and normalizations following the August 31 closure of the limited-period FCNR(B) deposit mobilization. 
  • Credit Demand vs. System Allocations: Outstanding non-food credit expansion remains robust year-on-year (+17.86%), with banks deploying surplus liquidity into government securities (investments expanded by Rs53,081.12 crore over the fortnight) to balance risk and generate stable returns. [1]
  • Central Bank Borrowing: Borrowings from the Reserve Bank of India stayed low at Rs1,038 crore, indicating durable systemic liquidity without excessive reliance on emergency central bank windows.
