Mumbai, 25 September 2026: The three leading industry bodies representing the cooperative banking sector - National Federation of Urban Cooperative Banks and Credit Societies (NAFCUB), National Urban Cooperative Finance and Development Corporation (NUCFDC) and National Federation of State Cooperative Banks (NAFSCOB) - today reaffirmed that cooperative banking institutions across the country will continue to provide banking services to customers, members and businesses as per their normal operational arrangements.

The clarification comes in the context of the three-day bank strike proposed by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) from 28 September 2026 to 30 September 2026. The three industry bodies have clarified that cooperative banking institutions across the country have not proposed to participate in the strike and remain committed to ensuring continuity of banking services for their customers and members.

The cooperative banking network comprises approximately 1,450 Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs), 34 State Cooperative Banks (StCBs) and 351 District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs), with an extensive presence across rural, semi-urban and urban India. These institutions serve a diverse customer base, including farmers, rural households, small businesses, traders, entrepreneurs and other sections of society.

Customers and businesses can continue to access banking services through their respective cooperative banking institutions, subject to the facilities and operating arrangements of individual banks. These include:

  • Branch Banking: Deposits, withdrawals, remittances and other banking transactions at branches, as per the services available at the respective bank.
  • Agricultural and Rural Credit: Eligible farmers and members can approach their respective cooperative banks for agricultural and other credit-related requirements.
  • Urban and Business Banking: Individuals, traders, small businesses and other customers can continue to avail themselves of banking facilities offered by Urban Cooperative Banks and other cooperative banking institutions.
  • Digital and Alternative Channels: Customers can use available ATMs, mobile banking, internet banking, UPI and other digital banking services, wherever offered by their respective banks.

Customers are advised to contact their respective cooperative bank or branch for information on the availability of specific services and transaction facilities.

Cooperative banks have played an important role in expanding access to formal financial services and supporting agricultural and rural development, local enterprise and community-level economic activity. Their extensive grassroots presence and close engagement with local communities enable them to address the banking and financial needs of a wide range of customers.

NAFCUB, NUCFDC and NAFSCOB reiterate the cooperative banking sector's commitment to customer service, financial inclusion and accessible banking services. Cooperative banking institutions at the urban, state and district levels will continue to serve customers and members in accordance with their normal operational arrangements.

Customers and members may approach their nearest cooperative bank or branch to avail themselves of the banking facilities available to meet their financial requirements during the period from 28 September to 30 September 2026.
