Mumbai, July 9, 2025: Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman interacted with senior representatives from leading Non-Banking Financial Companies #NBFCs during the NBFC Symposium 2025 organized by Department of Financial Services (DFS), in New Delhi, today.

The Symposium was also attended by Union Minister of State for Finance Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, and Shri M. Nagaraju, Secretary, DFS, besides senior officials of DFS and leading Public Sector Banks MDs and CEOs. 

NBFCs have emerged as an important source of credit for segments that have historically been underserved or excluded.
Gross Loan advances by NBFCs have grown significantly, doubling from Rs 24 lakh crore ( Trillion-Tn) as of March 2021 to Rs 48 lakh crore as of March 2025. FM is understood to have asked the NBFCs to ensure fair lending.

The NBFC ecosystem has over 9,000 registered entities, which range from large infrastructure lenders to niche players in microfinance and asset-backed lending. Together, they fulfil a range of credit needs and are the first point of contact for crores of citizens and small businesses seeking financial empowerment.
