Sales Tax Officer Arrested In Bribe Case

Mumbai, June 6, 2024: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested accused Sales Tax Officer Class-II/AVATO, Ward No.95, Zone-8, Govt. of NCT Delhi while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs. 40,000/- from complainant, as per the press release issued by the CBI.

CBI registered a case on complaint on 05.06.2024 against the accused Sales Tax Officer Class-II/AVATO on allegations that accused demanded bribe of Rs1 lakh from complainant (a practicing tax consultant in GST and Income Tax) as reward for having resolved the issue of Input Tax Credit (ITC) of his client M/s Gupta Agency and dropping the proceedings of cancellation of registration of the said agency. After negotiation accused reduced the demand and agreed to accept the bribe amount of not less than Rs. 40,000/-.

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused Sales Tax Officer Class-II/AVATO red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs.40, 000/- from the complainant. Subsequently, the accused was arrested. Searches were conducted at residential and office premises of the accused at Delhi.

Accused was produced before the competent court today.

Investigation is continuing.
