Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman highlights the PM Internship Scheme’s role. 86 interns from 24 partner companies participated in the event

Mumbai, 14 August, 2026: Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, interacted with interns of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) at New Delhi. The interaction saw participation from 86 interns representing over 24 leading partner companies under PMIS.
Hon’ble Minister interacted with the interns about their experiences, aspirations, and journeys under PMIS. She also spoke with them on what motivated them to participate in the scheme, the learning and skills they gained during their internships, and their future goals.
Several interns who excelled during their internships have been offered full-time roles by their respective companies. The Hon’ble Minister noted that PMIS was designed after extensive consultations with industry, as employers expect fresh graduates to be workplace-ready while many young graduates require practical exposure to meet those expectations. She said the scheme is helping bridge this gap by providing young people with hands-on industry experience.
Speaking to the interns, the Hon’ble Minister emphasized that PMIS is not restricted only to a candidate’s academic qualification. She said the scheme enables youth to pursue internship opportunities in areas of interest, helping them gain hands-on training and professional learning in those fields. She also advised the interns to perform their work with focus and responsibility, noting that even small mistakes can have consequences for others, including end consumers, and may affect the company’s quality and reputation.
The event showcased remarkable stories of transformation of youth through PMIS.
One such story was that of Dhruv Gupta from Delhi, who is interning with NSE. Coming from an IT background, Dhruv had always aspired to gain exposure in the finance sector. Through this scheme, he received an opportunity to work in finance and hopes to build a career in the fintech sector by combining his technical knowledge with the financial skills gained during the internship.
Gupta sharing his experience said, “PMIS gave me the opportunity to step into the finance sector despite my IT background. This experience has helped me understand how technology and finance can come together, and I now wish to pursue a career in fintech.”
Another inspiring story was that of Naina from Uttar Pradesh, who received an opportunity to intern with Alkem in Daman. Although the opportunity required her to move far from home to a new city, Naina was determined to gain new experience, with her family supporting her throughout the journey. After successfully completing her internship, she was offered a full-time role at Alkem, marking the beginning of a new professional chapter in her life. She said that, “Moving away from home was a big step, but my father encouraged me to take this opportunity. PMIS helped me gain valuable experience, and today, receiving a full-time role at Alkem feels like the start of a new journey.”
Similarly, Parul Rajput from Haryana interning with Hero MotoCorp, said that she delighted when she first received the opportunity to work with a leading brand like Hero MotoCorp. Working at a two-wheeler production plant, Parul feels a strong sense of responsibility, as every component she helps produce must meet the highest standards of quality and safety. Parul Rajput said, “I feel that the safety of customers is also in my hands. I have to ensure that there are no mistakes in the parts I work on, and I want to continue doing my work with the same focus and dedication.”
The interaction underscored the growing impact of PMIS and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to nurturing a future-ready workforce aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
