Mumbai,2 November 2026: Central Bank of India has joined the partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF), a global initiative that enables financial institutions to measure and disclose greenhouse gas emissions associated with their lending and investment activities.

As a signatory, the bank will measure and disclose its Scope 3, Category 15 emissions, associated with financial activities using PCAF's standardised methodology. The move is aimed at strengthening climate risk assessment, improving portfolio transparency and supporting customers in transitioning towards a low-carbon economy.

The initiative comes amid growing global focus on climate-related financial risks and the Reserve Bank of India's proposed guidelines on climate risk disclosures.

Shri Kalyan Kumar, MD & CEO, Central Bank of India, said, "The Central Bank of India envisions a future where banking is synonymous with sustainability, inclusivity, and ethical governance. Becoming a signatory is a testimony to that vision. Measurement and disclosure of emissions associated with financial activities will allow us to better understand climate-related risks within our portfolio and support our customers through the transition to a low-carbon economy."

Established in 1911 by Sir Sorabji Pochkhanawala, Central Bank of India is among the country's pioneering indigenous banks. The PCAF association reinforces its commitment to responsible banking and integrating sustainability into its financial operations.

By adopting the PCAF framework, the bank aims to bring greater transparency to the environmental impact of its financing activities while building the analytical capabilities needed to address emerging climate-related risks.
